About US
Established in 2022, Victims of Violence Support Africa (VVSA) was born from the awareness of the lack of psycho-social support for victims of political violence and the impact of this void on the work of civil society organisaitons (CSOs) aiming to contribute to the strengthening of the rule of law in Africa.
We aim to fill this gap through working with human rights defenders (HRDs) as well as other victims (e.g. individuals, community groups) of political violence, in order to build their awareness, enhance their capacity and their networks of support.
The VVSA Way
Our way of work aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Address the psycho-social impact of political violence by strengthening the capacity of HRDs to work through their own trauma as well as to work with other victims of political violence. Thereby enabling their healing, restoration, self-efficacy and transition (back) into active participation in their socio-economic activities, defence of human rights, justice and the end to impunity.
